About Intel Corporation

Intel was for decades the world's largest x86 CPU manufacturer. Over the past 10 years it has lost market share to AMD (CPU) and Nvidia (AI GPU), and accumulated delays on manufacturing process nodes. Under Pat Gelsinger's leadership it launched IDM 2.0 to separate design from fabrication (Intel Foundry Services). Headquartered in Santa Clara, California.

What does Intel do?

Intel designs and manufactures CPUs for PCs and servers (Core and Xeon lines), GPUs (Arc), data center chips, and runs Intel Foundry Services offering contract manufacturing to other companies. It's trying to close the technological gap with TSMC and Samsung.

Does Intel pay dividends?

Yes, but the dividend was significantly cut in 2023 from $0.365 to $0.125 per quarterly share to free up cash for investment in new fabs. Dividend yield today is typically 0.8-1.5%.

Can Intel return to leadership in its market?

Open question. Gelsinger's IDM 2.0 plan aims to recover manufacturing leadership by 2025-2027. Timing and outcome are uncertain. Historically, semiconductor leadership recoveries take 5+ years and heavy capex — the stock price reflects the market's level of skepticism on the plan.
